Die Church of the Good Shepherd liegt direkt am Ufer des türkisblauen Lake Tekapo mit einem perfekte Blick auf den See und die Southern Alps. Die Kirche ist nicht nur ein überaus beliebter Ort für Hochzeiten, sondern auch eines der beliebtesten Fotomotive für Nachtaufnahmen. Die Region ist bekannt als Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve, das bedeutet, dass jede vermeidbare Lichtquelle auch vermieden wird. Das hat zur Folge, dass man dort den wohl intensivsten Sternenhimmel zu sehen bekommt, den man sich vorstellen kann.
Doch auch bei Tag ist die Kirche ein wahres Fotomodel. Vorausgesetzt man schafft es einen Moment abzupassen in dem keine Touristen durch die Tür oder durch den Bildausschnitt stürmen.
